Full day conference suitable for KS3-KS5 groups
Service Description
A range of stimulating and interactive talks on different topics aimed at introducing philosophy and philosophical thinking led by examiner and author Chris Eyre. The day includes full notes and can be tailored to the age and interests of your group. A sample outline of a typical day is given below 10.00am: What is Philosophy? Meet the family. 11.00am: Break 11.15am: Dangerous Ideas 1: Is the world virtual? Exploring Plato's Cave 12.15pm: Lunch 1.00pm: Dangerous Ideas 2: Is everything we know wrong? A journey with Descartes. 2.00pm: Break 2.15pm: What's the point of Philosophy? Skills, careers and a better life 3.15pm: Plenary and Questions 3.30pm: End Titles and timings above for illustration only. Other possible sessions include, 'Is right and wrong invented?' (Nietzsche) 'The Philosopher who cancelled the sunrise' (Hume) 'The proofs of God's existence' (Aquinas/al-Ghazali) amongst others Delivery Options All schools and colleges are different in terms of available time. Half day or even twilight options may be available (depending on location) where a half day or twilight covers some of the above by agreement. Online delivery, whilst not always be as effective, is an option if preferred or in the event of face to face delivery not being possible.
Cancellation Policy
Typical Fees Full Day Course up to 5 hours (in person delivery) £450 (remote-webinar) £350 Half Day Course up to 3 hours (in person delivery) £300 (remote-webinar) £200 Twilight* (90 mins) (in person delivery) £150 (remote-webinar) £120 * Twilight face to face sessions only available within approx one hour travel of North Staffordshire Expenses 1. Travel – invoice will add travel costs to the course fee – either second class rail fare or mileage charged at 45p per mile. 2. Accommodation – where venues are more than 2-3 hours away from North Staffordshire, overnight accommodation may be necessary before events. We will confirm this with you prior to finalising booking. Ts & Cs 1. Materials: All fees include materials which will be provided electronically before the event 2. Group size: The above fees apply to all group sizes up to 100 staff or students. However large groups may in some instances be less effective, so worth considering on booking. If groups are larger than 100, extra fees may apply 3. Cancellation: cancellation, particularly at short notice, may mean that other bookings have been declined in the meantime so a cancellation fee applies if organisers cancel the booking within 1 month of the event. Cancellation fees are ¼ of the total fees and any expenses incurred or £50, whichever is greater.
